John Leslie 1945-2010

I came home today to discover that the wonderful John Leslie has died. I can't overstate how terribly sad this is -- I'm sure it's no news to regular readers how much I adore this man. This article goes some way in expressing the depth and diversity of this great talent. Join me in celebrating his life and career this evening.

Bummer. He was a cornerstone of the whole business, back when they were making actual "movies" as opposed to just gonzo collections. :\

Indeed. And then he adapted and evolved with the industry and became a cornerstone of video features, and then a cornerstone of gonzo. You can't say that for many. A true artist.

He was so charismatic on screen, and a good actor who almost always seemed to actually enjoy himself in his sex scenes. As a director he did some of the best features of the 80s and 90s. Even his gonzo videos like the original Drop Sex and Fresh Meat are among the best of the period. A real loss.

"Charismatic" is definitely the word. And yes, his evident enjoyment of the sex scenes really made him (and the scene) a pleasure to watch. There were often funny little moments that didn't seem scripted, like when he rubs his hair on the woman's crotch in Ecstasy Girls. Scripted or not, it was stuff like that I always found so fun. He seemed to really love women.

Oh, what terrible news.

I was debating whether or not to watch a flick today, but now it's a done deal. The only problem will be deciding whether to pick a Leslie flick I've seen before, or one I haven't....

I guess the obvious solution is one (or more) of each.

Yes, it is terrible news. Have fun with those flicks -- revisit a favourite, and catch one you've always meant to see but never got around to.
